Two-day course to focus on AMD diagnosis and management

Moorfields Eye Hospital and The Institute of Ophthalmology are holding a two-day course on age-related macular disease next month.

The course, Age-related macular disease – its diagnosis and management, is designed for optometrists, junior ophthalmologists and others interested in learning more about common ophthalmic disorders.

The event is on 8–9 December at the Institute of Ophthalmology, 11–43 Bath Street, London.

The course has been organised by Moorfields consultants Professor Sue Lightman, ophthalmic surgeon, Philip Hykin, and ophthalmologist, Sobha Sivaprasad.

The topics will include anatomy of the eye, of the retinal and the visual system, as well as the ageing retina. Pathogenesis of wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), clinical trials and future therapies for wet and dry AMD will also feature.

The course will focus on imaging the retina, optical coherence tomography and autofluorescence, as well as fundus fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green chorioangiography.

How to diagnose and choose a management strategy will be featured, as well as a discussion of AMD clinical cases. The complications of intravitreal therapy, how to recognise and manage will also be presented.

The epidemiology and pathophysiology of AMD will be included, and there will be a look at the first and second Age-Related Eye Disease Study.
